COUVERCLES D'UN MONDE SUBMERGÉ - ACRI
Au cœur du travail du duo d'artistes Rama (Federica Marini et Carmelo Rago), et l'exposition qui leur est dédié, est le couvercle de trou d'homme, défini comme élément de design urbain qui peuvent produire des traces de son origine, devenant ainsi la marque la zone géographique d'appartenance et une période historique particulière. Grâce à la technique d'impression d'une cuillère gravures sur bois, les artistes sont proposés comme les archéologues peuvent détecter les empreintes, les signes et les traces de l'histoire, l'humanité a laissé sur les fenêtres.

The dates for the fair are Wednesday December 2nd through Sunday December 6th. The first view is Wednesday December 2nd and is a private viewing for VIP invitees only. We would like you to join us for the first view on Wednesday December 2nd from 11am - 6pm. TALK: THE BIENNAL PARADOX - COLUMBIA
Over the last 20 years, globalism has reshaped the international art world, and one of the most important contributing factors has been the rise of the International biennial. Once confined to a few key locations (among them Venice and Kassel, Germany) such shows have emerged in recent years in art centers as diverse as Singapore, Beijing, Johannesburg, Havana, Dubai, Istanbul and Gwangju, Korea. They have become a means for artists outside the mainstream to become noticed and for curators, critics, collectors and dealers to expose themselves to a wide range of international art. But there is another side to biennials as well. They serve their host countries in a variety of ways -- promoting cultural tourism, bringing in international revenue, promoting various non-art agendas and at times countering the bad publicity generated by less felicitous social, economic and political problems.This talk will look at the biennial phenomenon and discuss the reasons for their proliferation, the nature of their influence on local and global art worlds, the differences between specific biennials, and their relative value in the ever more complex international art world.

Rogers Crait explores the uneasy relationship of the urban experience of Aboriginal people whose primarily experience has been the metropolitan and the odd expectations and racism one often encounters in the city. His large expressive paintings layer paint, stereotypical images, A.I.M. logos, exploding planes, tipis, skyscrapers and so on in one expansive experience. The work is not just about being Aboriginal, or landscape painting but reach beyond into questions relating to identity, colonization and globalization.
Biography: Roger Crait, is a Status Indian from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Crait studied Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba. He has had solo exhibitions in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Fort MacMurray, Moncton, Edmonton, and had a performance in Vancouver. Crait has shown in group exhibitions locally, nationally and internationally, including Glenbow Museum AB, Los Angeles USA, and Boomali Art Centre, Australia. Crait has received awards for painting, including the Molly Hyman Award in Art for two consecutive years and he also received a nomination for the Manitoba Aboriginal Youth Achievement Awards. Crait currently has upcoming exhibitions at the University of Manitoba in the Revolver show and is taking part as an artist at The Works Festival in the summer in Edmonton. Crait has been working with a group of ten artists in Cranberry Portage on a sculpture for the Vancouver Olympics. His artwork has appeared in The Manitoban, the Uniter, Winnipeg Free Press, Uptown Magazine, BorderCrossings, Borderline, and twice was on the cover of Canadian Dimension Magazine.

Roger Crait explore la relation difficile de l’expérience urbaine du peuple Autochtone d’où son expérience primaire était dans le métropolitain et les étranges attentes et racisme que cette personne peut faire face dans la ville. Ses grandes peintures expressives sont des accumulations de peinture, d’images stéréotypes, des logos A.I.M., des avions en explosion, des tipis, des grattes ciels; tout dans une expérience expansive. Son travail n’est pas juste question de ce que c’est d’être Autochtone, ou même de la peinture du paysage, mais cherche bien au-delà des questions de l’identité, de la colonisation et de la mondialisation.

It’s that time of year again…
101 FRAMES, Gallery 101’s largest annual fundraiser, is thinking outside the frame with its 7- year plan to shake things up in downtown Ottawa.
On Saturday, December 5th, 2009, Gallery 101 will host the second of seven years of THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS.
Each year artists interpret a different deadly sin. Last year’s event, LUST, was a raucous success, with lust-filled artworks, provocative performances, decadent djs spinning saucy tunes, and a crave-worthy martini bar.
This year, G101 invites artists to make art that engages with the boldest sin in the bunch: PRIDE. We certainly want to show our PRIDE, and why not? This year, Gallery 101 is celebrating its 30th Anniversary of supporting Ottawa’s arts community, and we feel the need to brag, to boast, and to get a little narcissistic.
So this year, 101 FRAMES invites local and regional artists to show a little PRIDE with us, whatever your interpretation of the word (and we know, there are plenty), by creating artwork about PRIDE for this year’s silent art auction and party. Artists can pick up a frame to fill from Gallery 101 or provide their own ready-to-hang work, framed or on stretched canvas. All mediums; max dimensions 24” x 24”
Other Sinful features of this year’s event will include door prizes to brag about (including some very haughty big ticket items), excessively self-satisfying appetizers, vogue-worthy music, and some artistic events to rival last year’s Performance Art Peep Show - so watch for more announcements as the details are revealed. Artwork must be submitted by November 27th. Show us you have a lot of PRIDE (for the arts) in Ottawa, gratify yourself with a night of arts and culture, and showcase your talent to artists and art lovers alike while supporting your local non-profit artist-run centre.
Proceeds from the auction help Gallery 101 maintain its services to artists and the community. This event is supported and made possible by our local artists, volunteers and friends.

Ça n’arrive qu’une fois par année… et voici le temps venu!
Avec 101 FRAMES, sa principale activité de financement annuelle, Galerie 101 déborde de son cadre habituel avec un plan échelonné sur 7 ans qui change les choses au centre-ville d’Ottawa. Le samedi 5 décembre 2009, Galerie 101 présentera une deuxième édition consacrée aux SEPT PÉCHÉS CAPITAUX.
Chaque année, les artistes donnent leur interprétation d’un péché capital. L’an dernier, la LUXURE s’était incarnée dans des œuvres sexy, des performances provocantes, des DJ décadents qui ont fait tourner des chansons osées, et un bar pour combler les pires envies de martinis.
Cette année, G101 invite les artistes à créer sur le péché le plus voyant de tous : l’orgueil. Tout le monde s’affiche avec fierté de nos jours et pourquoi pas? Cette année, Galerie 101 célèbre 30 ans d’appui à la communauté artistique d’Ottawa, et elle n’hésite pas à s’en vanter, s’en enorgueillir, et devenir un brin narcissique.
Donc, cette année, nous invitons les artistes locaux et de la région à afficher un peu d’ORGUEIL en notre compagnie pour 101 FRAMES. Peu importe votre interprétation du thème (et Dieu sait qu’il y en a!), créez une œuvre sur la fierté pour la grande fête annuelle de la vente d’art aux enchères par écrit. Les artistes peuvent se procurer un cadre à la Galerie 101 ou présenter leur œuvre avec toute la quincaillerie nécessaire à l’accrochage, déjà encadrée ou une toile tendue sur châssis de bois. Toutes les techniques sont bienvenues; dimensions maximum 24 po X 24 po.
Cette année, parmi d’autres activités coupables, il y aura des prix de présence à exhiber (y compris des articles brillants à prix élevé), des amuse-gueules pour se contenter, de la musique en vogue et des moments artistiques qui rivaliseront avec la performance art « peep-show » de l’an dernier. Les œuvres doivent être présentées au plus tard le 27 novembre. Montrez votre fierté (pour les arts) à Ottawa, faites-vous voir lors d’une soirée d’art et de culture, et étalez votre talent devant les artistes et les amateurs d’art réunis, tout en soutenant votre centre d’art local géré par les artistes.
Cette année, tous les cadres ont été gracieusement fournis par FRAMES BY ROCKWELL. Galerie 101 apprécie grandement votre appui qui contribue de façon tangible à la stabilité financière et au bien-être à long terme de la galerie.
