Rogers Crait explores the uneasy relationship of the urban experience of Aboriginal people whose primarily experience has been the metropolitan and the odd expectations and racism one often encounters in the city. His large expressive paintings layer paint, stereotypical images, A.I.M. logos, exploding planes, tipis, skyscrapers and so on in one expansive experience. The work is not just about being Aboriginal, or landscape painting but reach beyond into questions relating to identity, colonization and globalization.
Biography: Roger Crait, is a Status Indian from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Crait studied Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba. He has had solo exhibitions in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Fort MacMurray, Moncton, Edmonton, and had a performance in Vancouver. Crait has shown in group exhibitions locally, nationally and internationally, including Glenbow Museum AB, Los Angeles USA, and Boomali Art Centre, Australia. Crait has received awards for painting, including the Molly Hyman Award in Art for two consecutive years and he also received a nomination for the Manitoba Aboriginal Youth Achievement Awards. Crait currently has upcoming exhibitions at the University of Manitoba in the Revolver show and is taking part as an artist at The Works Festival in the summer in Edmonton. Crait has been working with a group of ten artists in Cranberry Portage on a sculpture for the Vancouver Olympics. His artwork has appeared in The Manitoban, the Uniter, Winnipeg Free Press, Uptown Magazine, BorderCrossings, Borderline, and twice was on the cover of Canadian Dimension Magazine.

Roger Crait explore la relation difficile de l’expérience urbaine du peuple Autochtone d’où son expérience primaire était dans le métropolitain et les étranges attentes et racisme que cette personne peut faire face dans la ville. Ses grandes peintures expressives sont des accumulations de peinture, d’images stéréotypes, des logos A.I.M., des avions en explosion, des tipis, des grattes ciels; tout dans une expérience expansive. Son travail n’est pas juste question de ce que c’est d’être Autochtone, ou même de la peinture du paysage, mais cherche bien au-delà des questions de l’identité, de la colonisation et de la mondialisation.

Crait exposera sous peu à l’Université du Manitoba où il participera à l’exposition Revolver; il participe en tant qu’artiste à The Works Festival pendant l’été à Edmonton.
