The exhibition comprises selected by the signature members of the National Academy of Professional Plein Air Painters documenting every region of the country from sea to shining sea in plein air and studio painting and drawing.

The National Academy of Professional Plein Air Painters was founded in 1991 in Washington DC. As professional artists, NAPPAP members are dedicated to the pursuit of excellence of aesthetics and craftsmanship in their work set by the historical standards in this genre. In addition the members endeavor to respect their fellow artists and their work, avoiding unjust criticisms, actions or comments designed to harm their artistic standing or work and willing share their knowledge and provide encouragement to their fellow artists as well as collectors.

CARTOGRAPHIES D'EMPIÉTEMENTS MÉTALLIQUES

Née d'une série de tableaux dont la thématique était la dualité endiguée par le contraste, ma dernière production poursuit cette fascination dans une série d'œuvres sur papier et de bas-reliefs en bois et en métal.

L'exposition CARTOGRAPHIES D'EMPIÈTEMENTS MÉTALLIQUES s'avère être la représentation spatiale d'une recherche entre certaines dualités fondamentales qui m'inspirent. Liberté/assu-jettissement, légèreté/densité, impulsion/rigueur, abandon/contrôle, geste/forme, avant-plan/arrière-plan, opacité/transparence, industriel/manuel...

Je fais cohabiter des opposés et, ainsi, espère transcender ce qui semble découler d'un impossible mariage. Est-ce une lutte de pouvoir, une cohabitation, des arrangements à l'amiable ou un
miracle surprenant?

Depuis toujours, ma recherche de l'équilibre dans le déséquilibre s'est imposée de plusieurs façons dans mon oeuvre picturale. Aujourd'hui, elle se traduit plastiquement par un empiétement métallique et formel avançant du haut vers le bas et recouvrant en partie, l'épaisseur palpable et la texture visible même si recouverte, d'une expression libre et colorée.

Je suis fascinée par la peinture aluminium, cette anti-couleur qui cherche à refléter la lumière mais qui assombrit aussi, si on la compare au blanc du papier. Sa qualité couvrante, pour un usage domestique, m'est apparue idéale pour l'expression de ma recherche actuelle.

Dans cette lutte de pouvoir s'il y en a une, entre la forme et l'expression, qui des deux tire le meilleur profit de sa situation plastique? J'essaie de faire match nul, de déclarer l'égalité aux deux belligérants. C'est ma recherche de paix, ma perpétuelle quête du bien-être et de l'équilibre.


À PROPOS DE L'ARTISTE

Née à Montréal, Élodie Bernier fait son premier dessin à l'âge de neuf mois à l'aide du stylo de son grand-père. Voyant son intérêt pour la chose, son père commença à lui fournir un stock permanent de papier pour qu'elle puise y dessiner, ce qu'elle fit d'une façon quasi compulsive.

À quatre ans, Élodie répond qu'elle veut devenir peintre lorsqu'elle sera grande. À l'école secondaire, elle découvre les joies de la potographie N/B et du cinéma d'animation grâce au cours d'Art et Communication.

Elle passe une enfance nomade à grandir et évoluer dans plusieurs villes du Québec avant de s'établir définitivement à Montréal en 1984.

Elle fit ses études universitaires à Montréal en Beaux-Arts (photographie) mais elle suivra également des cours de peinture qui la motivent particulièrement. Elle ira terminer son baccalaurat à l'École de peinture de Nîmes, en France, où elle découvrira quelques unes des splendeurs de ce pays mais aussi une façon de vivre au sud, qui est loin de lui déplaire.

Elle n'a jamais arrêté de peindre et de photographier depuis et expose régulièrement dans les galeries et centres d'artistes québécois.

HARLEM HOAST TOUR 2009 - HARLEM

Harlem Studio Fellowship by Montrasio Arte is glad to announce our participation in HOAST2009, the art Harlem fifth annual walking tour of Harlem artist studios, galleries and exhibition spaces, scheduled for October 10 and 11. Admission is FREE!

Join our Open Artist Studio Programs, which give you a chance to get a behind-the scenes view of the artistic practice. Our current artists in residence, Doojin Ahn (Korea), Valerio Ricci (Italy) and Larissa Voltz (Germany-Israel), will be in the studios working on a project that will be shown at the end-residency exhibition, scheduled for November 2nd 2009.

On this special occasion HSF will also exhibit selected works created by some of our past artists in residence during their stay in New York: Reuven Israel, Susanna Pozzoli, Lovisa Ringborg, Marco Perroni, Leone Contini Bonacossi, Mariagrazia Pontorno and Cyril Lecomte-Languérand.

KENJI HIRATA and RYAN McLENNAN - NEW YORK

Kenji Hirata’s artwork in form and color is strongly inspired by nature, billboards and hand painted signage of Southeast Asia, and futurism.

The theme that runs through Hirata’s body of work is a story he has created, in which an entire universe exists. His paintings, drawings, and films provide glimpses into this universe.

Hirata has developed a language of icons and symbols, which take on new meanings as they are combined and recombined throughout his abstract and figurative works.

Hirata creates his work for an open mind. He intends to speak to the childlike part of the viewer that is not jaded and can imagine the right direction for the future with clear vision.

Ryan McLennan was born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1980. In 2002 he received a BFA from the Painting and Printmaking Department of Virginia Commonwealth University. Since then he has exhibited work in Los Angeles, New York, Boston and Richmond, Virginia. He is a recipient of the 2008/2009 Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship and was featured in the 2008 Mid-Atlantic issue of New American Paintings. Ryan currently lives and works in Richmond, VA.

The wildlife familiar to us now coexists with life forms that embody what we have long taken for granted. These mammals and birds are in total control of their future. They are responsible for managing and maintaining their resources without exhausting them.

These paintings are brief lessons in ecology, natural history, and evolution. Through research I gain a better understanding of geography and each animal’s settlement of North America. Once I learn the distribution of specific animals, their social behavior and development, I further their existence in a place that only I can document.

Opening receptions for both exhibits are on Saturday October 17th from 6-9 pm. Both artists will be in attendance that evening. Please contact the gallery if you would like to receive the preview for either exhibit. The exhibition will run until November 14th @ JOSHUA LINER GALLERY.

A Performance lecture featuring a Puppet Doctor, 3 Artists and 6 remedies. Artists Zoë Walker & Neil Bromwich, Michael Pinsky, and Doctor Hillary present The Panacea Casebook, examining intersections between art and well being. Asking the question is it possible for the work of artists to act as a social, political and economic panacea, Pinsky, Walker and Bromwich search for artistic solutions that simultaneously offer the viewer/participant an aesthetic experience and a practical tool to improve life.

Followed by a book launch of The Panacea Catalogue and Arts Monographs

Panacea Case Book is made in collaboration with Dr Mark Down, Dr Hillary and Blind Summit Theatre and is funded by Welcome Trust.

DAMIANO Rossello est un artiste-artisan expert ses modèles de qualité rare, il est capable d'interpréter les plastiques plus haut niveau. Sa piste principale, il crée à travers les formes audacieuses et sage, d'argiles et de la terre obéissante pliée à sa volonté parce que «DAMIANO détient tous les secrets de la nature avec l'humilité de celui qui sait. La couleur et le feu font leur part, tant pour les petites embarcations qui ne travaillent que répéter. La matière n'a pas de secrets pour cet artiste, capable de répondre avec brio à des stimuli et fraîche de son inventivité et la capacité innées. Il a exposé et a obtenu des prix nationaux et internationaux.
En Février 2008 il a été envoyé, parrainé par la Regione Liguria conférences à l'Académie d'Arts Plastiques "Oswaldo Guayasamin» de Bayamo (Cuba).

PRIX PATRIZIA BARLETTANI - MILAN

Pour l'ouverture du nouveau siège de Milan de la Galerie San Lorenzo (Via Sirtori 31) mettra en place l'exposition de groupe NEXT GENERATION, constituée du travail des 30 finalistes qui ont réussi le processus de sélection du Prix Patrizia Barlettani sur le thème: «Vingt ans après l'effondrement 1989-2009 du mur de Berlin, combien de murs restent-ils à abattre?"

Sélectionnés parmi plus de 180 personnes, ces jeunes artistes ont développé, avec différents supports et techniques, "leurs murs", en soulignant et en mettant l'accent sur les plus perturbateurs et / ou discriminant de la société contemporaine.
Le résultat est une exposition de grands environnements, où le vingtième anniversaire de la chute du Mur de Berlin (Novembre 9, 1989) est son inspiration.

La Galerie San Lorenzo, qui a travaillé pendant des années dans la recherche continue et constante et au développement des forces expressives des jeunes a permis cette initiative, qui sera répétée pour les années à venir, la création d'un prix portant le nom Patrizia Barlettani, membre fondateur du groupe CASA SAN ART Lorenzo, qui est morte prématurément, qui avec son talent, engagement et raffinement au fil des années, a toujours soutenu la recherche et par conséquent les travaux des nouvelles forces à l'œuvre dans le domaine des arts visuels.

L'exposition sera ouverte au public le 17 Octobre à 18:00 h et durera jusqu'au 28 Novembre, la journée présentera un catalogue publié pour les types de Zeta Scorpii et où sera le vainqueur de la Barlettani Patrizia Award.

Le Prix Patrizia Barlettani consiste en une exposition solo dans les locaux de la Galleria San Lorenzo à Milan en 2010.
