BLACK PANTHER: THE ART OF EMORY DOUGLAS @ STATION 4 UK

Station 4 is extremely proud to present the art of Emory Douglas, former Minister of Culture of The Black Panther Party by introducing three historic propaganda art pieces originally published in the Black Panther newspaper in 1970 and 1971. The featured limited edition silk screened images are the first of a twelve print collectors series.

Dreams | Worlds | Backgrounds is the title of this book (like the synonymous exhibition in the Leipzig Museum for Arts and Crafts | Grassi Museum). It provides an exemplary insight into Olaf Martens' photographic œuvre, which occupies its own important position in modern German photography with its sensual, Zen-like images.

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ....... These twenty-six letters make up the very essence of our communication as an English speaking society. My work deals with the very fascination of how language is used in reference to manifestations of power. Language is manipulated in ways that it lends itself towards domination of others. Some examples are the disenfranchisement of a certain segments of society, the criminal, the mentally ill, the insufficient, the poor, and the uneducated. These groups are dominated in some way by big powers, and the door to that domination is language. – Danita Barrentine
