MODERN CAMOUFLAGE –
MOATS, ROPES AND REVISIONS –

In this exhibition, Juliana España Keller is offering herself to the viewer as the target, entreating viewers to examine concerns that are integral to her practice: concealment, illumination and theatre with a purpose. Her intent is to tackle the boundaries between the urban and the rural, the physical and the cultural, the understated and the overstated, to explore the in-between. Modern Camouflage is a highly personal investigation of what constitutes the self and its surroundings. This body of work evokes a contemplative environment of death, desire, love, loss, and transfiguration — in images and experiences that reach toward invocations. They revolve around isolation although quietude offers no repose.
MOATS, ROPES AND REVISIONS – JUDITH BERRY
Judith Berry’s playful, yet ominous landscape paintings conjure immediate visual associations – they suggest aerial mapping, children’s building block toys, candy… – and imply concurrent processes of construction and destruction. The architectural elements, consisting of natural materials and human-made forms, appear to be in the midst of completion. The cyclical implications of these courses of erection and collapse combined with a constant sense of rebuilding imply a passage of time and human (or possibly animal) activity. However, these temporal and circumstantial impressions remain profoundly mysterious and intuitive, as a result of a scarcity of contextual information and reference marks.
BONE CHINA – BEVAN RAMSAY
Bone China emerged as a reflection on the relationship between synthetic and organic aesthetic properties. By fusing the two, Bevan Ramsay has attempted to create a kind of hybrid object that while alluding to both, partakes in neither. The result is a strange yet familiar object that defies categorization and frustrates attempts to identify technique, material or provenance.
