CLEVE GRAY: MAN AND NATURE - COLUMBIA

Join the Contemporaries for a champagne reception at the opening of Cleve Gray: Man and Nature. This event is for Contemporaries' members only. Please RSVP by calling the Museum at 799-2810.

About Cleve Gray: Man and Nature

Man and Nature is the first comprehensive touring exhibition of Gray’s work and is the only museum exhibition to date to focus on his mature abstraction. The 47 paintings in the show follow the development of the artist’s color-based abstractions, forged out of introspection, his responses to his extensive travels, and his deep understanding of European and American modernism and Asian sources.

Gray’s work is in the collections of approximately 50 public institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Yale University Art Gallery, the Norton Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Columbia Museum of Art, and the Neuberger Museum of Art, among others.

Giant Robot is proud to host Singing Her To Sleep, an art show featuring the work of Jack Long.

Jack Long grew up in West Chester, Pennsylvania, received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2002, and currently resides in Los Angeles. Painting in oils on wood, his work explores human relationships in a narrative setting and draws heavily upon the tradition of storytelling, often utilizing motifs and imagery found in mythology and fairytales.

For the show, Long is preparing a collection of paintings celebrating everyday life, love, and nature. The images elevate the ordinary into mythical events and scenarios, filling them with a sense of grandeur and mystery.

A reception for the artist will be held from 6:30 to 10:00 on Saturday, June 27. For more information about the show, GRNY, or Giant Robot magazine, please contact:
