DRASCO BOGDANOVIC - OTTAWA

La Petite Mort Gallery presents...

ONE NIGHT STAND
with DRASKO BOGDANOVIC
NEW PHOTOGRAPHS
One Night Only Exhibit
Friday September 11, 2009 / 7 - 10pm

Proudly sponsored by CKCU 93.1 FM

"His cutting edge work captures the heartbeat of contemporary photography."
- Try State Magazine

I break down examples of collectible and desirable photography into two subgroups. First there is the sort that captures a moment, a sideways glance or feeling without a trace of staginess and sometimes without even needing to be representational. The second is the kind of shot that records a formally blocked tableau and usually required for fashion and magazine work. What amazes me about Drasko is his competence at both, as well as his use and mastery of natural lighting throughout.
Antonio Arch

With raunchy style guaranteed to arouse Serbian-Canadian artist Drasko Bogdanovic is presenting, in a one night only event, a collection of provocative homo-erotic photographs. Depicting masculinity as a blend of portraits and nudes, his sexually charged and intimate photos play with the viewer and catch him in a game between a voyeur and an exhibitionist.

"Drasko loves men. Men love Drasko and trust him. He likes them naked. They like him to take charge. There is a bond. There is tension. The resulting photographs may cause some to break in a sweat."
- INCHES Magazine, 2009

Statement:
Drasko Bogdanovic (born 1977 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yugoslavia) is a Bosnian-Canadian artist, portraitist and photographer of homoeroticism. He emigrated to Canada in 1996 where he took up digital photography. Bogdanovic was a classically trained musician and self taught painter before taking up photography. An early fascination with Hollywood magazines and black & white photography influenced Bogdanovic to juxtapose classical posture with natural light in his male nude photography. Today his landscape and architecture photography capture cities’ geometry, immutable personalities and intrinsic emotions; his photography has appeared in domestic newspapers and magazines and has been featured in local and national advertising campaigns.

We are all voyeurs.
Who hasn't wanted to watch someone else in the act? Let's be honest.
To have permission, or doing so without their knowledge... both can be incredibly stimulating,
especially with the chance of getting caught.
Photographer Tony Fouhse invites us in the bedroom of April & Erik, a couple who let us catch them in the privacy of their bedroom, and to share their rawness, their passion, and their beauty.
- Guy Berube, 2009

Artist Statement:

APRIL + ERIK: LOVE SHOTS

April and Erik invited me and my camera into their bedroom.

As usual, there was no plan. I just wanted to see what would happen,
what the photographs would look like.

I had no expectations. Even though my photography is very much about
directing, I’ve learned that situations and dynamics always take on a life of
their own. For me, photography is still about discovery.

I thought I’d be photographing sex. What I discovered was love. Not the
holding-hands-while-walking-into-the-sunset kind of love.

April and Erik’s love is more real than that.

---------------------------------------

I would like to thank April and Erik for their generosity, their openness and
honesty. And, most of all, for their love.

- Tony Fouhse, 2009

IMAGINE - VITULANO

I M A G I N E
The new vision of the 80s generation
la nuova visione della generazione anni '80

FLAVIO MONTELLI

cared by/a cura di Carolina Lio

Saturday 3rd October, in occasion of the fifth Contemporary Day held by AMACI, the GiaMaArt studio art gallery inaugurates the exhibition: “IMAGINE the new vision of the 80s generation” at 7 pm. The event, cared by Carolina Lio, presents the paintings by twelve young artists active on the national territory and unsurprisingly born in the 80s. All the names united in this project have a particular pictorial vision in common that distinguishes them from the attempts made by previous generations to give once again an identity to Italian art. In fact, whilst in the last ten years an exceptionally realistic form of research has been maintained, via the photographic outline and the subject captured in everyday actions, the Italian artists which are now breaking forth in this the latest period are directing themselves towards a new air of international flavour.
This type of art is softer, flexible, with unreal notes and present distortions that speak of an imaginative and visionary outlook. Therefore, it does not describe a tangible reality but it transforms the visible across an emotional and psychological filter. It invents a new type of prospective where the proportions are not real but describe a scale of values that are subjective. The colours have more to do with a psychoanalytical mechanism of association between colour and mood, with an observation of the truth. In addition, the forms are purposefully uneven to let the judgement of who is painting transpire. Thence, all the accessorial elements of the context, which are useless in adding a sense to the painting, disappear and often the actual spatial-temporal reference disappears to concentrate our attention on elements of feeling and emotionality of the subject. This unreal and rare atmosphere constitutes a fantastic extremely sensitive world of the imagination a type of hypnotic place of pure mental perceptions.

The exhibition will be held until the 31st January 2010 from Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm and at 8pm by appointment. The times may vary so it is advisable to always check by calling. Catalogue available in the gallery, GiaMaArt studio editions, texts by the curator.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
