PSYCHOTROPIA - NEWARK

Seed Gallery’s Two Year Anniversary Art Exhibition
Group Show, Curator: KALIPTUS & Gizem Bacaz
September 24th-November 12, 2009
Opening Reception: September 24th between 5pm-8pm

Psychotropia will be taking place on September 24th, 2009 at Seed Gallery, which is located on 239 Washington St. in Newark, NJ. This awesome celebration of Seed’s two-year opening anniversary & psychotropic art exhibition is guaranteed to be one of our best yet. The theme of “psychotropia” reflects the mind, revealing its deeper nature and its infinite aspects of the psyche. The art that will be displayed from September 24th until October will be psychotropic in that it will bring our audience closer to their deeper mind. The content of the works are mind revealing and can be considered to express mystical states of consciousness, shamanic experiences, visionary states of the mind, etc. Our goal is to bring together an impressive array of artists, who’s art forms not only deliver quality in content and design but also act as a portal for spiritual exploration, inspiration, healing, and psychotropic research.

Claudia Lady Bird Johnson once said, “Art is the window to man's soul. Without it, he would never be able to see beyond his immediate world; nor could the world see the man within.” Art is meant to elevate one’s understanding of himself and the world around him, instantaneously taking him/her into a higher level of consciousness. In “Psychotropia” we will be creating a unique and awe-inspiring environment that is meant to transcend the self beyond the beyond. Art works will vary from paintings to sculptures, to digital prints, collages, installations, animations, and much, much more. Imagine entering the gallery and stepping into an entirely different universe where one can explore multiple realities uncommon to day-to-day reality. Hues of bright and fluorescent tones intertwined in archaic myths with psychedelic gods and archetypal techno demons might be some of the themes displayed in some of the more expected pieces. But be prepared to also expect the unexpected. Feedback installations with interactive devices and video projects might just melt your mind and blow you away. We are also expected to have synesthetic animations that vibrate trance evoking, audio frequencies and optical phenomenon so astonishing that you might never forget.

If you are inspired by eidetic imagery, visionary art, mandalas, sacred geometry and surrealism don’t hesitate to stop by for our opening night. This upcoming show’s artists will bring to you some of the most exciting aggregations that may resemble many of Carl Jung’s collective archetypes or the powerful hypnagogic states of a Tibetan Buddhist Monk.
