PHILADELPHIA, PA - Pentimenti Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of works by Rebecca Rothfus "In the Open" and a group show "The Colors of the Week" by gallery artists, Kim Beck, Anthony DeMelas & Pete Checchia, Jacob Lunderby, Jackie Tileston, and more from April 21 - May 30, 2009. A reception with the artists will be held on Friday, May 1, from 6 - 8:30 pm.

Rebecca Rothfus continues to explore topics of landscape, architecture and evolvement of the early 21st century in this series of new paintings with a focus on our great state and recent travel. With her laser-like attention Rothfus concentrates on the man-made parts notable for their simple and elegant design, those architectural and mechanical pieces of our world that are not only functional and beautiful but also a little nostalgic. Be it a farmhouse, a water tower, or antennas, Rothfus introduces a spatial abstraction that tantalizes the viewer’s perception. She defines her shapes very clearly, with a cool sense of color harmony and a surreal starkness, enhancing the feeling of three-dimensional objects defying forces of gravity.
Rothfus features 16 paintings. The works range from 12 x 6 inches to 20 x 16 inches in the medium of pencil, gouache, paper mounted on panel.

Rebecca Rothfus was born in Pittsburgh, PA. She graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (BFA) and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts / Tufts University (MAT). She exhibited at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, Chicago; ASAP Chicago, Chicago, IL; ArtHouse, Austin, TX; Riverwest Arts Center, Milwaukee; and more.

The Colors Of The Week
Pentimenti Gallery features mixed media works by gallery artists, Kim Beck, Anthony DeMelas & Pete Checchia, Jacob Lunderby, Jackie Tileston, and more in a weekly rotating exhibition.
