Statement:

Title: Good and Evil

Statement:

"Much of Literature and Storytelling is about the struggle between Good and Evil. Beauty is often an expression of this tension. My art expresses these realities and the conflict that they can provoke.

I knew as a very young girl going to private school in Montreal that all I wanted to be was an artist. At the age of 18, I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and for many years I suffered from psychosis, insanity and homelessness.

Now, in my 50’s, I have come to terms with my illness and I have learned how to manage things so my life is livable. On a very personal level, my art has helped me work out much of my inner angst and as a result I have managed to turn my suffering into peace.

Through my art I hope to bring a little peace and healing to the world".

Statement: BEFORE COLOR
"Three distinguished artists survey their geographical locations with an eye directed away from colour. The stark whiteness of our initial view presents the opportunity to insert our own hues and shades as our surroundings become more familiar. The artists present a subject of their choice before colour, before assumptions, and full of possibilities".

STUTTS EVERETTE - HOMEWOOD

Stutts Everette graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana with a bachelor in Studio Arts. His studies emphasized painting and drawing, under Ronna Harris, and glass blowing under Gene Koss. While studying in New Orleans, he grew fond of the city’s history and had a deep appreciation of its unique architecture. After moving back to Birmingham, he found his work being strongly influenced by James Michalopoulos. Over the years his influences have expanded to Vincent Van Gogh, Egon Schiele and Hokusai Iitsu hitsu.
Stutts exhibits his art locally in Birmingham at Monty Stabler Galleries and has been commissioned for private collections in Austin, New Orleans, New York and Charleston. Nonprofit charitable donations have been a long focus for Stutts as well. This show includes studies from Haukusai’s 14th century wood carvings as well as pieces he created based on his love of southern botanicals.

CAROLYN GOLDSMITH - HOMEWOOD

Carolyn Goldsmith was born in Gainesville, Florida in 1943. She graduated from Stephens College in 1963 and continued her studies in art at Huntington College, Montgomery, and the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee. She now lives and works in Birmingham, Alabama. She is married to a retired Episcopal priest and has three adult sons. She also maintains a studio in Watercolor, Florida.

Carolyn believes art is an outward expression of her inner feelings, and one of the most meaningful ways she relates to the world. Through her work she addresses the human struggle to make sense of our existence and our relationships with one another and with God.

It is her hope that her work will trigger in the viewer images, memories, dreams and visions. While each individual’s reaction will be different, it will never-the-less emerge from humanity’s common pool of symbols and shared emotions.

ANDREAS EMENIUS - COPENHAGEN

WAS - Wonderland Art Space præsenterer:
ANDREAS EMENIUS "The Nervous System"

GRAND OPENING
6 august from 17-22

KULAY, KULTURA, KALAWILI - HONGKONG

COLOR, CULTURE and HARMONY

This art exhibition presents a range of collection as clear evidence of the evolution of each of the artist’s growth in this profession as evidenced by the body of works produced here in their adopted city. And it is interesting to see that for the first time, after years of sporadic exhibitions by individual artists as they struggle or as a rag tag group, that they collectively present a spectrum of this body of works produced in a span of more than a decade and including fresh works from new comers. For the first time these Hong Kong-based visual and media artists and their collection of works done in Hong Kong are showcased as a unique group in this major exhibition venue under a Hong Kong government funded project. This event hopefully signals more promising and productive years to come and to inspire artists to do more.
As to whether these diverse art forms, expressions and styles to be considered Filipino or not is out of the question. The focus is just to do art either out of passion or mission or as a lesser priority justifiably balanced with the main purpose of having a steady source of living as a means to simply coexist in this new living environment. Hopefully, the progress and development of the HARAYA artists could serve as a modest yet promising contribution in the arts and cultural environment of Hong Kong.
