Territorial Imperative refers to the notion of one entity deciding that it needs to exert its power or influence in the affairs of another, which is more often than not based on the economic circumstances of both parties. In most cases it invariably means the stronger your economic standing in the larger scale of functioning, the more power you exert on the rest of the stakeholders operating within the same platform. Since a lot of today’s cultural systems are influenced and run by what one could call a ‘Territorial Imperative’ it would be interesting to experiment with how the gallery- artist- curator- art world relationship would be affected by the proposed change in the dynamics of traditional power play. “Whose Territorial Imperative?” explores these dynamics.Alexandre Singh
