REORIENTATION
Maps are born out of our impulse to orient ourselves and understand our positions. But to what extent can maps reorient or even disorient?
The works in Reorientation are an investigation into the capacity of maps to represent the subjective, the confusing, or even the nonsensical. Ranging from the insertion of personal anecdotes into the universality of Google Maps to the literal scrambling of space in a map of a hometown cut into puzzle pieces, the artists in Reorientation use maps as the very method by which to illuminate the informational limits as well as the imaginative possibilities of mapping. In doing so, they find room in maps for stories, wandering, and mystification.
