MARIO SALINA - TREVIGLIO

With a personal exhibition, Visioni Suburbane (Suburban Visions) 11th July 2009, in the same moment of the White Night, Mario Salina will show his last cycle of works in the Ernesto and Teresa Della Torre Civic Museum in Treviglio (Bergamo). A part of these cycle of works has already been proposed, in June, in the beautiful setting of Palazzo Sasso in Ravello.

There will be showed more than forty paintings, about thirty paintigns will have a medium-big dimension and about ten paintings will have a small dimension, all having been painted in 2008 and during these last months.
The subjects are figures portraying simple, everyday behaviour featured in the foreground and sharing a common environment where the dominating element is water, a factor always loved by the artist (bather, figures near the sea, fisherman, the bridge, boxer, man of the suburbs, man and the dog).
All the works are acrylic on canvas and reach a delicate balance between the cool shades (blue, green , grey) apparently dominant and the warm shades (brown and pink). Bright accents of white accompany the paintings throughout.
Every single work is the outcome of a long process of elaboration which nonetheless keeps track of steps previously taken, thanks to the ongoing use of the rags. In so doing, the artist can erase where he wants to, but on the other hand, create special effects where he needs to by the original intervention of paintbrushes "customized" by Salina himself.
Compared to the paintings of 2007 works, that also encounter the same themes using the same technique (Up and down, Harbour of the South, Seadog and Canicola) these last works show an enforcement of the summary of the figures and their progressive fusion with the landscapes. The latter is not only merely suggested by individual features (a building, an animal), but now simply raised by a few spots of colour.
This clearly shows that Salina is increasingly concentrated on painting and he is going towards a stronger syntax.

Mario Salina was born in 1963 in Mozzanica (Bergamo), where he lives and works. He graduated at Brera Academy in 1987 and two years later, he made his debut at Cannaviello Gallery in Milan. Since then he has participated in numerous exhibitions and held numerous personal exhibitions, winning several awards and acclamations.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
