The Contemporary art of Asia has been more and more drawing the worldwide attentions, especially Chinese, Japanese and Korean Contemporary art occupy pivotal position in the field of it. Also, the concept of traditional Western art which people are familiar with has becoming increasingly influenced and infiltrate by the oriental culture.

The Asian Cainozoic assembles almost all the main mediums of art including painting, installation, video etc. All the artworks are created by a bunch of Asian emerging artists who are working and studying in London and most of them graduated from University of the Arts London. CLIFFORD BAILEY@19th ANNUAL WINE & CHILE FEST - SANTA FE

Timed to celebrate the unique and robust flavors of New Mexico during the 19th Annual Wine & Chile Fest comes a sultry fall show filled with whimsy and romance featuring new work by internationally renowned artist Clifford Bailey. Wine tasting courtesy of Vino Del Corazon, tasty New Mexican hors d'oeuvres and gourmet delicacies from The Choclatesmith will be served.
Reception Saturday September 26th 6-9pm...RSVP requested.
Clifford BAILEY's highly individualized style of painting is often described as vibrant, exciting, and sophisticated. The artist captures the very energy and essence of Jazz and Jazz clubs as he puts his unique understanding of music into his uplifting and compelling compositions. The viewer is instantly swept up into the days of the Roaring 20's as well as the undeniable opulence and refinement of the 30's and 40's.

The stylized characters in Clifford BAILEY's work entertain the viewer through the artist's effective use of subtle and harmonious color and detail. One can sense the art of Clifford BAILEY's simplified, yet potent, brush strokes as he orchestrates his vignettes of swinging bands, sultry torch- singers, too-hip crooners, and even sophisticated symphonies.

JAZZ, in essence, developed as a musical style exploring and experimenting with vibrant and boldly improvisational use of instruments in an almost rebellious fashion. Clifford BAILEY has adapted this witches-brew formula for creativity to his unique brand of painting. As he says himself, Music has always inspired me. When I see the faces of people under the spell of music, I have an urge to capture their expressions on canvas. There is an emotional intensity I find fascinating. And then there is the rhythm of painting itself, the way the brush slaps and strokes the canvas, the color combinations and shapes of compositions and form; it's all music to me. -Clifford Bailey

Given his already robust following and the consistent demand for his paintings, the future seems bright for Clifford BAILEY and his artwork. And as such a popular and successful artist at this pivotal dawn of the 21st century, it is likely that Clifford BAILEY's art future may very well become art history.

JANICE KERBEL

Singularly Significant series
September 18, 2009 - January 23, 2010

Opening Reception: Fri, Sept 18, 2009, 5 - 7 p.m.

In concert with CAFKA, Contemporary Art Forum | Kitchener & Area

The Singularly Significant series features concise projects by artists marking significant developments in contemporary art practice. The series is designed to provide visitors with a glimpse of otherwise expansive endeavours.

KW|AG is pleased to present UK-based Canadian artist Janice Kerbel as a complement to CAFKA's 2009 theme of Veracity. Kerbel's practice often employs the framework of a 'plan' and the rigorous application of existing systems to explore and illuminate the relationship between reality and the realm of the imaginary. Kerbel's exhibition at KW|AG includes Remarkable, a series of prints reminiscent of fairground posters that announce the spectacular feats of improbable beings. Also included is Underwood, a series of four fictional love letters, one for each season, rendered in a typeface designed to mimic a faulty typewriter. Using text and the subtleties of reproduction, Kerbel leaves the viewer to imagine a visual equivalent of hyperbole and promise.

About Janice Kerbel
London-based Janice Kerbel (born in Toronto, 1969) studied at Emily Carr College of Art and Design, Vancouver and Goldsmith's College, London. Kerbel has had solo exhibitions at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Arnolfini, Bristol; and Artspeak, Vancouver. She has participated in prestigious group shows including Art of the Garden, Tate Britain, London; and Crack the Sky, 5th Montreal Biennale. In 2006, she developed Nick Silver Can't Sleep, a play written for insomniacs. The play was commissioned by Artangel and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Kerbel was short-listed for the 2006 Sobey Art Award and is represented by Karin Guenther Gallery, Hamburg and greengrassi, London.

MIRIAM JARRS: GLEAMING H - LONDON

Sesame Gallery is proud to present ‘gleaming h’, the first solo exhibition by Hamburg-based painter Miriam Jarrs.

Miriam’s paintings are poetic, magical, sinister and sublime. They depict a world of dream-like landscapes and forests that host a cast of folkloric symbols and characters, each with their own stories that progress across the different paintings. Naïve, hallucinogenic and individually enchanting, as a group the paintings work like an autobiographical epic, a labyrinth of micro-narratives for the viewer to explore.
